You know, the Phantom Stranger is pretty much the only person who could say this ....
without laughing.

The PS rocks!! Plus, he's managed to survive without a costume change for 30+ years...complete with turtleneck, mysterious cape, and big ugly gold bling (which I'm sure is quite enchanted bling)..

John may he Byrne once drew PS with a domino mask. I suppose it's more logical than his face always being in shadow, no matter the angle or lighting, but logic and comic books have never been on speaking terms.
Logic, schmogic. It's MAGIC. You ever see a non-mystical character doing the hat-or-hood-with-convenient-shadow-instead-of-actual-mask trick, you can call BS, but magic users have a built-in explanation. :)
I'm reading that SHOWCASE volume now (along with CHALLENGERS, and an ESSENTIAL THOR volume 2), and I must admit I was shocked at how bizarre much of the PS dialogue is. (I also like the reprinted 50s PS stories more than the new ones.)
Actually, for most of the 90s he had a 'costume' change-- the bling went away, and his cloak became a trenchcoat. The classic look has been back for the past several years, though.
Actually the newest issue of Justice #7 or 8? the one with the Flash on the cover chasing down Captain Cold...has one of the *best* Phantom Stranger moments in recent history....well, that and him bopping in at the last moment in the 7 Soliders Zatanna series with a loaf of bred and a bunch of breakfast fixings!!

Really hated that Hellblazer 63 moment...
No mask! Ever!

I love the Phantom Stranger. He's like the Doctor Who of the DCU, if the Doctor was antisocial and dealt with the supernatural.
