Things That Made Me Happy...

in my comics this week.

  • Really, I can't remember the last time I saw Aquaman say, "YIPPEE!"
  • Lek lokok nak.
  • Matt Bensen's ingenious out of the box solution.
  • Wally versus George Washington.
  • Walker finds what he's looking for... in himself.
  • The Heroes' Holiday.
  • ... versus mailmen? OMG, when I figured it out, I nearly laughed my fool head off.
  • The helpfulness of Dr. Arkham.
  • The return of Bruce Wayne, billionaire philanthropist.
  • Tempest's argument with Mera; sorry, I think Mera wins.
  • The Wonder Woman and John Stewart discuss equal rights with the Founding Fathers.
  • In case any one ever needs to check for any reason, I, too, only have 28 teeth.
  • Hal updates Barry, in 3D.
  • Even dead, the Elongated Man is still a jerk.
  • The Flash versus Barry Allen. Absolutely priceless...!
  • Yeah, Carol looks really safe, LOL...
  • I finally have some real respect for Thomas Elliot. Great move.
  • "Sounds like flies".
  • Element Dog. I just keeping saying it, again and again: Element Dog. And I smile each time.
  • Hey, she really is an investigative report, isn't she? You go, Lo-lo!
  • Oh, no. Not Bzzzt!
  • Chronos's Washington Monument. Nearly laughed my fool head off.
  • Carter and Kendra have new jobs!
  • "I'm sure anywhere you go in the universe, you'll find stupid people."

Dead or alive, Ralph just wouldn't be Ralph if he WASN'T a jerk. ;-)

Yes indeed. He's the kind of jerk we all have known at some point. The kind that manages to convince everybody else that he's not really a jerk and is just "kidding." You know he's putting you down every chance he gets but you can't get anybody else to believe you.

I went to high school with a guy just like that.

Where's this Tempest/Mera argument happening?

The pages of Blackest Night.

Mera definitely wins. But, after all, the ability to defeat Garth in an argument isn't but so impressive.

Element Dog comic: WANT.

Super-Prozac made me happy. I like those two characters being less antagonistic than they have sometimes been, but also less seamlessly cooperative and friendly than they've recently been. A good scene: they're close enough to try to have the conversation, and different enough for it not to work.

Wally vs. George Washington? Which issue is that in?

Jerk or not, I was just so happy to see Ralph and Sue again. Yes, Ralph's a bit of a jerk, but then again, I'm a Guy Gardner fan, so apparently I LIKE jerks.

Yeah,poor Bzzd. And Ch'p!

Yeah, but Guy's the good kind of jerk. He's the kind of jerk who'll give you hell and crack wise, not meaning anything bad buy it. But if somebody else is actually picking on you he (Guy) will punch the (non-Guy) guy in the stomach for you. Guy's that kind of guy.

I was pleasantly surprised by Blackest Night #1. Given how poor I thought Final Crisis was, I wasn't looking forward to another "Big Event" from DC. But the first issue delivered quite strongly, in my view.

Thanks Diamondrock! I saw that last night when I actually read the comics I purchased instead of flipping pages...

Wasn't it when he heard Peter David would no longer be writing his adventures? (Little did he know what was to come....)

No. That was me...

What made me happy this week (now that I actually finally got my comics) is seeing Penguin and Two-Face back where they should be. Finally.

Why the unlove for Ralph? He's always been a stand-up (and coil his neck in group scenes) kind of guy.

I hate Ralph Dibny. Search the blog and you'll see...

Blackest Night and Final Crisis show the good and bad sides of continuity freaks. Johns is great at rejuvenating and building on old characters and situations. Morrison is great at digging up obscure crap and making it even more obscure, all the time giggling to himself about how clever he is. Which is sad, because when he's not trying to be obscure and clever, he can turn out stuff like All-Star Superman.
