Things That Made Me Happy

in my comics this week.

  • Acts-of-villains riders.
  • Well, as unlikely as it may seem, the Outsiders has officially become interesting.
  • Really, don't you think Gizmo should have replaced his glasses by now? Or at least his eye? Does he not have an image consultant?
  • Heh. Calling him "Carl".
  • Talking bombs. With shark faces. I love comics.
  • Hm. Barbara Gordon... Red Lantern...?
  • She's a Major? ROTFL!
  • THAT is the perfect title for the last issue of Robin. Nice one.
  • "Psyche!"
  • Wait is that... a giant bullet-shaped cenotaph? Instant classic.
  • Robin beats Shiva. Pure brilliance. That is why I love Tim Drake.
  • Heh. Calling him "a transformative figure".
  • That's the first explanation of the Outsiders that has every made sense to me.
  • Not at ALL something I expected to find out about Superwoman. Psyche, indeed.
  • Geo-Force working for a servant. Delicious!
  • DC really needs to start selling notebooks with that black hand symbol on them.
  • Roy Raymond, Jr. I am nonplussed. In a good way.
  • Batman and Rocket totally need to go out.
  • I assume that kissing him is pretty much like eating a mud pie.
  • Okay. Metamorpho is officially really creepy now.
  • Huh. Don't you think that she, of all people, would be a bit more freaked about getting a doll in the mail?
  • Now that is the way to quit your job. On live teevee.
  • Ryan is right; it is Nekron, isn't it?
  • Roy's "Marsh Marsha Marsha" moment.
  • Hm... Halo's possible role in the Blackest Night? Interesting. Yeah... I just said "Halo interesting".

Man, who's Ryan? I never met any Ryan. There is no Ryan.

There is only Diamondrock.

Heh. I forgot: "Codenames only."

I've read too much Meltzer, I guess...

Ah, we're like Batman and Superman when they hang out just the two of them. You can call me by my real name, just not when Geo-Force is around...

Heh. Nobody wants Geo-Force to know their real name.

I have to admit that I got the Outsiders book and actually...liked it. And that's something I never thought I'd say.

Remind me never to ask Hawkgirl to help get a kitten out of a tree.

Fluffy, no!!!

The Alf-Rocket helped. Still want to see the Alf-Cycle, though...

Rich just cracked me up.

Made me very, very happy to see Rocket, written by McDuffie, giving Batman what-for!

Surprised that Rocket's costume has traveled away from the Power Girl look; since when is DC in the business of giving its heroines costumes more modest than their originals?

Everyone who is bored to tears by the leftover Meltzer plotline of Roy-Kendra-Carter, please raise your hands.

*raises both hands and both feet for good measure*

The whole "Kendra is only partly a reincarnation so she no longer loves Carter, or does she?" is so "Batman shoots Darkseid" edgy and hip. And by that I mean a really f**king annoying attempt to shake up the status quo by having characters act totally out of character.

Aaargh! to Halo's possible role in Blackest Night, I was fearing that only last week on my little blog thing - bad enough all GL characters are getting tied together without dragging my lovely Violet into it!

I hope it's not Nekron! It just seems so obvious, you know?

Scipio said...

Heh, well, obvious to YOU, Ariel.

How many current readers do you think would remember or even have ever heard of Nekron?

It's TOTALLY Nekron. Green Lantern Big Bad who commands the dead; who else could it be?

"It's TOTALLY Nekron. Green Lantern Big Bad who commands the dead; who else could it be?"

Oh NOW you've done it! Now they'll have to change it at the last minute to ... I dunno, Doiby Dickles or somebody.

Would you believe...Tom Kalmaku?

Tell me you'd put it past Geoff Johns.

"Tom...?"
"Yes, Hal, it's me. Tom. Your old funny sidekick; your comedy relief. What was that charming nickname you used to call me? Oh, yes; 'Pieface'. You can't imagine how it hurt like a knife in the heart every time you called me that. The years I had to swallow the pain and humiliation, never daring to talk back to Ferris' fair-haired boy. The hate festered inside me, poisoning my soul. Turning it...black. Now it's your turn to taste some humiliation, Hal. So tell me...does it taste like...Eskimo pie?"

Pieface is just a sock-puppet for Doiby Dickles, the true master of cosmic iniquity.

There we go, Steve, giving Geoff Johns ideas! Now the next mega-crossover will likely be Final Kickses, wherein all the comedy relief sidekicks join forces to exact vengeance on the heroes who treated them so shabbily. Doiby Dickles; Pieface; Etta Candy; Stretch Skinner; Tubby Watts; Fatman; Jimmy and the Minutemen; Percival Popp; all under the leadership of their grand wizard, Jimmy Olsen.

Johns loves to go dumpster-diving in DC history, so we'll likely see the return of some comedy-relief sidekicks not seen in more than half a century, like Inspector McGonigle, Sgt. Casey, and Winky, Blinky and Noddy!

Verification word: "redorken". Nuff said.

Well, I'd pay for FINAL KICKSES before I'd pay for any of the FINAL CRISIS AFTERMATH miniseries. I took a 4-percent SAN loss just reading about these new books. Then I had the horrifying thought that someone at DC actually got paid for coming up with those ludicrous series concepts, and my remaining SAN leaked out of my head faster than you can say "Sweet Jumping Yog-Sothoth."

And unless the editorial conferences consisted of Dan DiDio going "Yes, sir, Mr. Morrison, sir, whatever you want, sir, may I get you another scone?" we can assume that there were drafts and revisions; what finally saw print is actually what DC thought was the best possible version.

I really have to wonder: Did anyone at DC editorial really believe the fans were clamoring for miniseries about the Human Flame, Nemesis, Super Young Team, and the Tattoed Man? And they killed BIRDS OF PREY and MANHUNTER to make way for those books?

Ah, well; I can vote with my wallet just like everybody else. After I pick up the last REIGN IN HELL today, and then the final two issues of LEGION OF THREE WORLDS (whenever those come out), my DC purchases will be down to just JUSTICE SOCIETY and SECRET SIX.

Well, I've been voting with my wallet for the past six years now, and it doesn't seem to be doing much good.
