Things That Made Me Happy....

in my comics this week.

  • How much of an idiot must you be if Hal Jordan, of all people, calls you an idiot twice in one issue?
  • Superman bites the umbilical.
  • The Joker isn't a pathetic lunatic, but rather an evil genius. And a master of the art of the unexpected.
  • Foot massagers, heated seats, and silk toilet paper.
  • If Red Robin is who I think he is, then wouldn't Robin recognize him?
  • I knew. As soon as I saw him stretch his hamstring while still in costume, I knew. It makes so much sense. And it makes me so very very happy, even though it will make many of you very very angry. And, whether you like it or not, it's what's going to save the character going forward into his new era.
  • "Think. Happy. Thoughts." HiLARious!
  • Alfred suggests jalapenos.
  • The Riddler is left-handed?
  • Bully for Willingham & Winick, who seem to understand Lois Lane better than most!
  • The explanation for the dome over Argo City.
  • Mary's lightning round.
  • "Commit some actual journalism"; heh, before Perry was an editor, he was a great writer!
  • Finally, someone remembers where Ragman lives, and what he's like. But shouldn't "cui bono" have occurred to Robin earlier...?
  • The bottle-city of Metropolis would make an excellent snowglobe.
  • Psst! Robotman.... you're not in the Justice League!
  • "Butterscotch! Baloney! Schnauzer!" is not a paragraph I ever expected to read, not even in a comic book.
  • It's always good to see the map of Gotham being used.
  • They just ... aren't capable of realizing it's Clark, are they? Points to you, Grant.
  • Gangbuster admitting that Hawkman is really hot.
  • Jason Bard, being really hot.
  • "What do you do when fate happens fast than you expect?"
  • Officer Slaughter.
  • "I have not felt pleasure in over two hundred years. Thank you."
  • Excellent Robin cover.
  • Normal Osborne was so marvelously evil this week it was awe-inspiring!
  • Killer bees. Killer bees are always good.
  • Psst! Robotman ... you've got a human brain. It doesn't have "recorded memories"!
  • Captain Marvel versus the fire hose.
  • She's right; Lex really is an idiot, isn't he?
  • OMG! OMG, OMG, OMG... it's Ulysses. I loved him. I've been waiting to see him again for almost 15 years now. YAY!

How on a Tuesday night do you know what makes you happy in this week's comics?
Ooh . . . this is actually Victor Von Doom, isn't it? You've got that time platform thingee.
If we're meant to have fun figuring out where these come from, I don't want to pretend to speak for everyone, but I give up on half of them . . .

Do any of your teases have to do with Aquaman? Thanks.

Nope; sorry!

Now you're just torturing me. On the other hand, if HAL is calling someone an idiot, than I am delirious with joy.

Please oh please let that someone be a Guardian. Please, oh, please!!!

Well, in a 1990s Doom Patrol story, Robotman's human brain was destroyed and replaced with an electronic backup. Or was that retconned out by Superboy-Prime's fist? (Maybe Robotman's as confused as I am.)

I am hoping and praying that you the Ulysses you are talking about is none other than Ulysses A. Archer.

Nope. Ulysses H. Armstrong.

Well, since Superboy's reality altering punch also brought Rita back to life and removed Negative Man's tits, it is entirely possible it gave Cliff his real brain back.

I love this sentence.

I hope you didn't actually buy that awful comic in which Hal called him an idiot twice. Your "things that make me happy" lists includes approximately all the worthwhile things about that book.

"If Red Robin is who I think he is, then wouldn't Robin recognize him?"
He's very, very good with disguises.

"Think. Happy. Thoughts."
One of my favorite lines ever spoken by a character I don't much like.

OH, no; I really liked DC Decision!

Tegan O'Neil said...

Oh wait, Ulysses S. Archer. Sorry for the confusion.

Ahhhh...now that I have my books, it all makes sense.

I just want to let you know, that YES, women's bathrooms are EXACTLY like that.

And I was happily surprised by DC Decisions. I picked it up on a whim, and it turned out to be quite entertaining.

Who's Ulysses H. Armstrong?

Scipio said...

"The General".

Okay, I got that much from this week's Robin, but I thought the name had some kind of older pedigree in the DCU, the way you mentioned it. I wasn't reading Robin when the General first showed up there..

And someone help me out. . .in which universe did Robotman join the Justice League and start hanging out in the Batcave?

No love for Marvel this week? I liked the MU version of the Amazons in Incredible Hercules. I also had some retro-fun with Age of Sentry. Hey, I recognized Torr, the Beast-Man from Beyond; but then, I have a TotalToyz conversion of same.

Actually, I think All-Star Jimmy pretty much knows Clark's secret, which is why he jumped in with the "nice ... ah .. disguise Superman."

So if U.S.Archer is now "The General," does Wade Eiling have to start calling himself "The Shaggy General" or can they just fight each other for the title?
