Things That Made Me Happy

in my comics this week.

  • Oh, Tim; that's never gonna heal if you don't stop picking!
  • As funny as a dog wear antlers is, Krypto wear antlers is even funnier.
  • The very last person I'd expect Tim to spend Christmas Eve with.
  • All three Beetles in one story!
  • I'm finally getting the big picture of what's going on in Robin!
  • Editor's notes from Johnny DC.
  • Dan Didio; thanks for the nice Aquaman story! Does that mean he can come back now?
  • Best Huntress story ever. If she were written like that all the time, I'd really like her.
  • Batman, door greeter.
  • Trimming the tree with Wally.
  • Lint brushes
  • Turtle wax.
  • Nuclear fabrophihbulator.
  • "I had it framed."
  • S.T.R.I.P.E. sitting on a couch at the party.
  • The Metal Men's failure to understand Christmas
  • Gold kryptonite, revised.
  • Yes, electrocuting a baby certainly does toughen up a villain's image.
  • Why Nightwing doesn't trust Jason.
  • Release the Kraken!
  • Even the THOUGHT of Vibe trussing someone up is HOT!
  • Well, if you want to create chaos and challenge, who better to do it than the person who started the Gotham Gang Wars single-handedly?
  • Okay, so, essentially that's Ace the Bat-Hound meeting Good King Wenceslaus?
  • Barbara's gift to Jim.
  • So, who sharpened Dr. Light's ears?
  • It took me several minutes to figure out why you'd name something "the Janitorafter School".
  • When he says, "Watch out for your mother", what does he really mean?
  • Superwoman. I really like her.
  • More villains should say, "Rats", when captured.
  • How long before someone names his children "Atmahn", "Kellel", and "Dinanna"?
  • Hey, that Huntress is quite a ventriloquist, huh?
  • "I'm starting to think this is no ordinary blackout." NOTHING gets past Aquaman!

oooooooooohhhhhhh....where's the Aquaman story line from Dan?

Also where is the Huntress story you say you would like her if it was that way all the time...Birds of Prey? I love Huntress...didn't realize she was so hated.

Most of this week's goodness is in the DCU Holiday Special.

If they did a monthly "DCU" anthology book that was like this one, I'd buy it.

All three Beetles!?! Where can this one be found? And may I assume these Beetle are azure?

Now I feel silly for having left my LCS with only a back issue of Superman: The Secret Years to show for it...

Having just finished the DC Universe Holiday Special I can honestly say I laughed and cried.

I suspect a monthly might tax both readers and creators, but why not a quarterly? Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter-themed stories could work well. The "hooks" for the other seasons wouldn't be quite as obvious as for the Winter holidays, but you could have a lot of fun with it.

I must confess that I LOVE the Holiday Special books. They are always corny, and I always get a kick out of them.

I do have to say that Batman getting a tie, and John Stewart in a Santa Claus hat were the high points however.

Remember the Showcase series in the early 90s? Each issue had one long story and 2 short ones, often spotlighting a lesser known character, a member of a supporting cast, or even a tryout leading up to a new series. I would totally pick that up again.

That said, I have a new job and now can't get my books until the weekend! This is awful.

I think we need a "Things That Creeped Me Out In This Week's Comics". I mean, was it just me, or did Dr Light's appearance in a Jonny DC title seem a little inappropriate after Identity Crisis? I just can't get behind (ugh, sorry) Doc Light as a Super Friends bad guy, trading light-hearted banter and then getting a Christmas present from the heroes while in jail...
I mean, it's just peachy for the target audience, and if they manage to reform the character, great! But as for me, I couldn't stop thinking "Rapist!". Thank you, Brad Meltzer, for not only ruining the character but stealing some of the joy I usually get from reading DC Super Friends. :(

I know this is a week late, but I just had to mention that I don't think that was STRIPE on the couch- he wouldn't fit. I think that's Lead of the Metal Men instead.
