Things That Made Me Happy...

in my comics this week.

  • Booster's dad: very hot without sleeves!
  • Brain-sucking robots.
  • For Batman, a nightmare city; for Superman, an invading solar system; for Wonder Woman, a giant robot attack. Very nice; although giant NAZI robots would have been even better.
  • "It didn't seem physically possible." Okay, THAT was brilliant.
  • Booster's dad's earpiece: creepy and clever.
  • Sodam's perspective on Daxam.
  • The president of the Robin Fan Club.
  • It's always good to see Impulse again.
  • Weaponized robot poop.
  • Calabi-Yau manifolds. Not enough of those in comics, I say.
  • Have you ever trying carving a crown with your teeth? Let me tell you, it's not as easy as you'd think.
  • Booster's dad's ear: RHOP alert!
  • No, in fact, I don't think Catwoman and Batgirl wrestling naked except for their masks in front of a room full of people is exploitative at all. Context, you know.
  • Clark versus Cat. Winner: Clark.
  • Batman thought it out; Superman worked it out; Wonder Woman fought it out.
  • The dignity and tenacity of the Penguin; finally, someone remembers who the Penguin really is.
  • So that's whose ring it is. I've been waiting for that answer for over 20 years. That makes perfect sense!
  • Ah ha; it's all Jaime Reyes's fault!
  • Hm. That change in the wind...? Not good.
  • Booster's dad's vomit.
  • I bet that's when she started to rethink the wisdom of having a tail on your costume.
  • Sorry; I don't believe that even Brainiac 5 can possibly have a map of Central City.
  • The corner of Waid & Weiringo.
  • I've never seen a pink-frosted donut that symbolic before!
  • The Green Lantern Corps showing remarkable wisdom in interacting with a very alien species.
  • So... Wonder Woman's attending, what, the Klaw Family Reunion?
  • Brainiac the collector.
  • The Joker versus the Parademon.
  • Spoiler's note. Very classy.
  • Forget "one punch"; I'm all about "one word".
  • Superman disposing of a pink-frosted donut, sprinkled with symbolism.
  • "It's Gonna Throw the Car"; I am totally up for all titles/subtitles in this style!
  • Clark using superpowers for what they're supposed to be used for: teaching lessons to those closest to us through public humiliation.

Gah! I haven't even gotten my books het. But now I'm very very anxious to read them.

VERY anxious.

Scipio said...

Heh; mission accomplished, then.

Which do you find most intriguing, Sally?

SallyP said...

I have to admit that the whole pink donut thing has me QUITE intrigued. Not to mention the hints about Booster's Dad, and what exactly has young Jaime Reyes been up to?

I just LOVE going to the comic book store.

Can you sue a company for plagiarising your dreams?

I suppose I'm going to have to pick up a copy of Batman Confidential to find out if I have a case....

Non Sequitur of the Week: The whole Catwoman-wrestling-Batgirl thing reminds of the scene from Ellen DeGeneres' old sitcom where she tells her old boyfriend that she's a lesbian.

"I didn't have anything to do with this, did I?"
"Not unless you played Catwoman on Batman."

Penguin was also responsible for the Death of Robin in Booster's alternate future. That bird was busy this week.

And I think I'm ready to anoint Gary Frank the best Superman artist of the past 15 years. There, I said it.

You gotta love the Riddler.

Him and the Penguin are just excellent together.

"The corner of Waid & Weiringo"

Where's this from

Great Guardians! I finally got my books, and it was definitely a banner week.

I can honestly say that I did NOT see that coming in Booster Gold...and yet, it is just so...perfect. Nice footwork, Beetle!

And yes, the artwork in Action Comics was beautiful. Loved the donut.

Wonder Woman is going to need to moisturize. Seriously.

And Kevin Maguire is a GOD.

I want to know about :
'It didn't seem physically possible';
Change in the wind?;
map of Central City, Waid and Weiringo?.

Possible I read the things they were in, and just overlooked them.

Derek said...

Mallet: Indeed.

Gamera: "It didn't seem physically possible" was in Salvation Run and the change in the wind was in Action Comics.

Scipio: I also need help with "Impulse", "map of Central City", "corner of Waid and Weiringo", and even "It's Gonna Throw the Car".

Did I miss an issue of The Flash or something?

"It's Gonna Throw the Car" was the title of this week's back-up feature in Trinity. I also liked the title of the lead story "A Personal Best In Giant Robot Smashing" (or something like that).

Oh, dear, you aren't reading
the Johnny DC title, Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century...?

Most weeks I get into this list but this one stumped me loads. Can we have an annotated version? Sort of Absorbascon For Dummies?

Mallet said...

Also I forgot to note that I finally subscribed to Action with this weeks issue. I've seen great Clark Kent scenes but that meeting was just awesome.

Derek said...

I... am not.

BUT. Due to your love and appreciation for the Legion (as well as another blogger whose opinion I respect), I have finally picked up my first Legion comics. You'll be happy to hear that there is another Legion fan in the ranks.

I have not yet seen the cartoon, though, so I never felt compelled to buy the comic of the cartoon. Can I enjoy it even if I'm not a fan of the show?

(Note: I'm not one of those people who can't enjoy "kid's comics". Justice League International, Tiny Titans, and Super Friends are all on my pull list.)

This week's Booster Gold just goes to show how interesting it is when a villain hops nemeses.

I think Action Comics delivered the perfect Clark Kent this week. To the world: a bit bumbling, very unassuming, meek--and yet not without dignity. I'm really looking forward to this new era.

Oh, and Kurt Busiek is giving great Trinity. Wonder Woman's emphasis on always striving to be better was a welcome moment and something about her character people forgot too often. She's not the perfect warrior and that would bore her very much if true.

Sadly, my shop was sold out of the Legion book this week but they did have the 1,050 trade so I can get my Legion fix somewhere.

I think Booster's "That sounded a lot cooler in my head" should be bumped from the quote vote in favor of Plastic Man's similar-but-funnier line to Black Canary.

I'm not crazy about the Clark portrayal in Action ( or Cat's, nevermind how funny I found the whole sequence ), and all these Superman movie fanboys are getting to my nerves. Case in point, cute as it was, Lois in the splash is total Margot Kidder.
