Zoning Notice to Bilquis Evely

I do not know you, Bilquis Evely. I do not know whether you are male or female. Or how old you are.  Or where you grew up or live now. Or what else you have drawn. Or how long you have been working for DC Comics.  But I'll tell you what I do know...

If you have ever been to Washington DC, you weren't paying enough attention.

There are no buildings in DC with more than 15 floors.

Not even on Earth-1.

Since those buildings appear to disappear into infinite perspective below, I'm going to say it is Central City and the letterer simply mislabeled it.

Nope. Can't be Central City, because there's not several hundred yards between each building. This must be Gotham City, where new buildings are built on the skeletons of old buildings which are built on the ruins of older buildings which are built above vast underground caverns that allow access to every part of the city. Gotham is a city that reaches toward the heavens while staying firmly rooted in hell.

It's only a model...!

I'm not prepared to cite chapter and verse, but I'm pretty sure Metropolis, at least, has buildings well past the 15th floor limit.

Steve, when I say 'in DC" I mean "in Washington, the District of Columbia".

Suddenly this chain of posts makes a lot more sense. . . .

Indulge. Or don't. Whichever.

Well, there is no doubt she's a good artist. But, yeah, she lives in Brazil and hadn't ever been to DC, which she assumes is full of skyscrapers because "big important cities always have skyscrapers".

DC; WHERE ARE YOU EDITORS?!

It's a little LATE to be asking questions like THAT, isn't it?

Way off-topic, I added this passage to Jean Loring's Wikipedia page some time ago:

"In Atom and Hawkman #45 (October–November 1969), Jean was abducted and driven insane by the sub-atomic Jimberen race. Although quickly freed from the Jimberen by the Atom and Hawkman, Jean remained insane until Justice League of America (vol. 1) #81 (June 1970), when she was cured by the equally insane alien Jest-Master."

It occurred to me that you might or might not (I narrowed it down to those TWO possibilities) want to expand on the basic premise i.e. that Jean Loring has a long history of insanity at length on said page because you might find it enjoyable to do so (I could do it except that I don't care very much). Which is why I'm telling you this. Remember, though, you're expected to sound reasonably objective and not funny. :-)

Did you write your multiple Jean-is-insane installments before or after Secret Identity revealed that she was crazier than a vampire who drank from the Creeper? If before, well, we might very well have you to thank for Jean's Secret Identity persona.

Oh, thank you, Scipio, thank you so BLOODY much!

;-)

If you mean "Identity Crisis", it came out in 2004 and my blog started in 2005..

"we might very well have you to thank for Jean's Secret Identity persona."
Let's simply note the Brad and I were friends when he, too, lived in Washington, and leave it at that.

Besides, everyone of our generation has always known that Jean Loring was insane.

AKA the Infantino Effect.

Its funny because Brasilia is also a very non-tall city. I think you can't build anything bigger than the Congress building.

That said, Central City exists and its called São Paulo.

Shit, I went to Rio and Rio was HUGE compared to my homecity (Belém). Travelling from Recreio to Laranjeiras took like three hours, its like travelling to another city.
