Forgotten Archie Characters: Pearl

Well.

I see why SHE didn't show up in CW's "Riverdale".

  1. I don't even know how to google her.

  2. "Archie Andrew's Maid, Pearl". Given the Archieverse, I'm surprised she never got her own comic.

    1. I found Archie 271 pearl necklace risqué controversial cover! on ebay. I consider that a win

  3. My preliminary research suggests this panel was her first and last appearance.

    1. "As though DC did better." I do not recall implying that they did. A fact I have pointed in out in early posts. Have you done so on YOUR blog?

  5. How old is Archie supposed to be in this story? The perspective suggests he's, what, eight?

    1. Archie is in the distance (although not as far as his size would suggest). This is early in Archie's era; at this point, they would still be consciously modeling him on Mickey Rooney, a short person. Canonically, Archie is 5'7" (unlike his CW counterpart, who is 5'11").

  6. Off-topic, but I recently came across this cover and, given your Shield/Archie comments, thought you might find it of mild interest.

  7. "A surprisingly deep pull"

I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds good. ;-)

As you could probably guess, none of the stories in the issue have anything to do with the cover. The same as the many Archie title covers which featured never-before-seen/never-seen-again super-heroes appearing JUST on the covers. Most if not all from 1966, as it happens. Batmania at work?

  8. BTW, "BHN"? "Brinell Hardness Test"? "Better Health Network"? "Be Here Now"? ...

  9. For some reason, I expected someone to express mild curiosity about the Archie title covers depicting never-before-seen/never-seen-again super-heroes. Here's a list, anyway. :-)

    Archie #168: UNIDENTIFIED
Betty and Veronica #127: Stretch Man
    Archie's Pals 'n' Gals #38: Superguy
Josie #22: a dozen or more UNIDENTIFIEDS (and the Fly)
Josie #23: Electric Man ("He's the only super hero who can kiss in A.C. or D.C. current!")
    Jughead #138: Diamond Guy
    Laugh #188: Supergal
Pep #195: Super-Doctor ("He personally mends every bone he breaks!")
    Pep #198: Giantman (no hyphen)
    Pep #203: Mightyguy
