Strike Two....

DC reinvents Batman and the Joker's first encounter with The Brave and The Bold

Batman: The Brave and The Bold is set to re-tell Bruce and the Joker's fateful first meeting as part of the new Dawn of DC era.

The anthology comic, which relaunches this May, will offer a four-part take on the lifelong foes' first encounter. Penned by Tom King ....

  1. Prediction: King kills them both off in every issue and brings them back in the next.

  2. I could actually get into "kills them both off in every issue". A Batman / Joker story that's trying to establish a new canon is iffy in the hands of King. But if they're all just possible stories and not to be taken seriously as The New Thing ... yeah, let's do it!

Kind of like the four different Phantom Stranger origins in that one comic. That was the way to do it.

  4. If only it would be that simple. No, King will have the pre-Joker persona (let's just say Jack Napier) murder Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, Barbara Gordon, Kathy Kane, Vicki Vale, and Ace the Bathound to set Batman/Bruce on the trail of the murderer. Batman will track Napier to a toxic burn pit in Iraq, where Batman will shoot Napier (yes, I said shoot) who then falls into the pit and, after Batman leaves, emerges as a horribly disfigured maniac who forces a former Army medic to reconstruct his face. The medic can't fix the white skin or rictus grin, so the new Joker murders him, his entire family, his former platoon, and three of the Joint Chiefs of Staff before heading to Gotham to take his vengeance on the gun-toting vigilante who did this to him.

I could go on, but that's the first 12 issues there. I don't want to give away Year Two. Let's just say Robin will be introduced as a murderous member of the Black Mask gang before striking an uneasy truce with Batman to murder the spree-killing Joker (who's now killed Leslie Thompkins, Bette Kane, Aunt Harriet, and Chief O'Hara) (yes, I know Harriet and O'Hara aren't in current continuity but here they are lovers).

    But I've said too much.

  6. "who's now killed ... Aunt Harriet"

    Hm.

Perhaps I have judged Tom King too harshly.
