Things That Made Me Happy

in my comics this week.

  • I'll say this for Robinson; he's got a good handle on how a dog thinks.
  • Nice use of panels on the Rising Sun segment!
  • The snood of Atlas.
  • Reverse-time bullets are exactly the sort of thing the Flash should be dealing with.
  • "Run!"
  • Every single page -- nearly every panel -- in the DC 100-page Super Spectacular Love Stories.
  • So that's what Turpin is there for. I wouldn't have guessed that!
  • As wonderful as Batman is, it was nice to see him get totally pwned.
  • Now that is a Bloody Mary.
  • "Mrs. Kent"; is that not a dead giveaway?

  1. If Barry's back, that suggests that the speedster Brainiac 5 captured in the lightning rod was Bart. Which would be cool -- bring all the speedsters back to life, celebrate with a massive barbecue in Barry's back yard. You just know he lives for that sort of thing.

In retrospect, it seems so damn obvious: Barry has been "dead" all this time only because he time-jumped. Simplest answer in the world.

And exactly the sort of thing that made Barry the forensic scientist a great character.

Wally just doesn't have that kind of smarts... but he sure has a nice family!

  4. Scipio...not many things made you happy this week. Though I guess it was a small week for DC...my wallet breathes a sigh of relief.

I still defend Wally. Maybe because I have known him most through my comic book reading...Yes Hal needs his buddy Barry back in his life...but Wally has a charm all of his own if you ask me. Which you didn't :) LOL

You know, I hadn't thought of that. That would piece together a lot of things.

Inertia, as has been hinted, will be the "Kid Reverse Flash" in partnership with Zoom. Bringing Barry back and partnering him with his grandson gives us Flash & Kid Flash Again. With Wally staying around the Flash Dynasty fills out nicely.

    Jay: Elder Statesman
    Barry: Dynastic Centerpiece
    Wally: Junior Counterpart
    Bart: Young Sidekick

"Barry has been "dead" all this time only because he time-jumped. Simplest answer in the world."

Wow. It hadn't occurred to me that that's what that was. And you're right; it's very simple.

Oh I like Wally also. In fact, I don't know many people who *don't* like Wally. He's sort of like Nightwing -- everybody, both characters and readers, think he's a pretty swell guy. Unfortunately, that does not always translate to book sales.

It just makes financial sense for DC to pull the Barry trigger right now. I'd go into it, but I already did on my brand-spankin' new blog (free plug!)

  7. So Barry's a "man out out time" by 23 years -- that's even longer than Captain America's frozen-in-ice phase. Is Barry going to be all sullen and depressed because the world has changed so much since 1985?

I know that he's been gone for only a few years in comic book time, but a part of me wants them to stick to the 23 year real-time figure. Just the look on his face when they tell him about Michael Jackson would be worth it.

  8. When was the time-bullet shot? In the Legion future, perhaps?

Then we might see it shot in the "Legion of three worlds" and also see Brainiac releasing Barry from the lightning rod in order to chase that bullet.

  9. I have to admit that this IS a pretty clever way to bring back Barry. And I do hope that the Flash in the Lightning rod is Bart.

The bit with Krypto and the frisbee was wonderful. Poor Hal. He wishes HE had a dog too.

And it was an excellent moment when Batman gets taken out...so early and so easily. Haw!

And speaking of excellent moments...over in Green Lantern, Sinestro casually reassembles Hal's plane after destroying it. The look on Hal's face is priceless.

Probably wishes he could chase the frisbee ...

  11. See, now, I always thought that they captured Bart in the rod just as he "died" so they could get him back to their/his time so the Legion could have a speedster.

Also, is it bad that I want the only Legion to be the one that was in the big Action Comics arc this year?

  12. "See, now, I always thought that they captured Bart in the rod just as he "died" so they could get him back to their/his time so the Legion could have a speedster."

That was my thought too all along too, mostly because I miss Bart more than I do Barry. But I am hoping they captured him prior to his aging, and actually prior to his becoming Kid Flash. Here's a way they could do it: remember when one of his energy duplicates was killed in "Young Justice"? If that's what they captured, all they have to do is put it in an appropriate Bart Allen body (by whatever means), and bam, we've got Bart back the way we all prefer him.

You're probably right that Brainiac 5 wanted a speedster for the Legion, but Bart's home really is the 21st century. Now on the other hand, if Bart can find Jenni Ognats (XS) and spark her powers, everybody wins. (Bonus points if infusing her with Speed Force energy restores her memories of Bart, because god damn I loved the two of them together.)

  13. I liked "That mustache makes him look like a pedofile".

  15. On the Impulse issues:
"If that's what they captured, all they have to do is put it in an appropriate Bart Allen body..."

    Ahem, ahem...
That stupid Inertia kid, who started all this nonsense, IS a clone of Bart.
Problem solved. In fact, two problems solved.

    Golf clap...

Very nice. You should get bonus points for that, Anonymous
