- Talking bulldogs, notwithstanding their physiological impossibility.
- The Penguin & the Riddler hanging out together.
- Lois Lane & Bruce Wayne hanging out together.
- The Penguin & The Riddler hanging out with Lois Lane & Bruce Wayne.
- The map of Ivytown and the reason it's crazy; every fictionopolis should have a map.
- Dr. Zuel's Chinese food joke.
- Mr. Zzz? Priceless.
- Yappy little society dogs.
- Jonah Hex; uncomfortably greying your black & white morality since 1864.
- Forget Felix Unger & Oscar Madison; Felix Faust & Black Manta are the new Odd Couple.
- The title of this week's 52, which is brilliant.
- The Weird, god help me!
- The Green Lantern Origin, which omits several unpleasantnesses, including the Yellow Ceiling Tile, The Heavy Yellow Lamp, and the Bar of Soap.
- Doc Magnus, kicking robot butt.
- Luthor's metagenetic irony.
- Super-Chief.
In fact, the only real downside to this week's comics was that Panda didn't get killed. I'm looking on the bright side; it'll happen later, I'm hoping, and much more slowly.
What made YOU happy in your comics this week?
Ooh, spoilers you meany.
ReplyDeleteWhere did Faust and Manta appear? I missed 'em...
ReplyDelete'Tec, MiS, Jonah Hex, and 52 were treats this week. But the real prize was Agents Of Atlas, which continues to be the best DC book ever published by Marvel.
ReplyDeleteFaust and Manta appeared in "Justice League Unlimited."
ReplyDeleteYour list is EXACTLY the same as mine. (So as not to appear like I'm sucking up, I'll also mention Bender's wacky earth-endangering antics in Futurama.)
ReplyDeleteThe Ivytown idea was inspired--what a nice, clean way to explain away the less-than-stellar motivations behind Identity Crisis.
And as for the "yappy dogs" bit, I loved Dini's Jaws tribute.
Thanks, Nathan!

I like these lists, but I'm wondering if they can be a little more explicit regarding the comics they're referencing. I don't buy more than a handful of titles on a regular basis, and would be happy to seek out "Mr. Zzz," Super-Chief, or talking bulldogs if I knew what comics they were appearing in!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love Ivan Reis's artwork, it IS odd that Hal didn't get hit in the head at least once in his origin. You notice that they also left out all that other Parall...unpleasantness.
ReplyDeleteMr. Zzz = Batman
ReplyDeleteSuper-Chief = 52
Talking bulldog =Mystery in Space
The Interlac at the end of this mornings Legion cartoon made me happy.
ReplyDeleteParticularly when you realize what it says...!!!
ReplyDeleteBatman saying "Mr. Weiner."
