Wizkids, the folks who make Heroclix let people vote on what the feature figures in their next collector's set will be, and the next set is now being voted on.
The choices are between the Metal Men, Astro City, and, oh yeah, um, some Marvel and Indie stuff. Grendel (the guy in Venom's costume), B.R.P.D. (who I think are like the GCPD, only sneakier), and Marvel 2099 (because Marvel's long-since run out of characters from this time period).
Naturally, I'm encouraging you all to vote for:
Astro City.
Why? Because the Metal Men custom clixs on our Ebay store haven't sold yet...
B.R.P.D. for the win! (also your second link is broken...)
ReplyDeleteOf course, once you make a Heroclix out of Astro City guys you end up having to define their powers. That's fine for Steeljack or Jack-In-The-Box, but what exactly is Samaritan's Empyrean Web? What can't it do? How powerful is the Hanged Man? What do Astra Furst or Winged Victory do? And most importantly, what the hell is the story with the Silver Agent?
ReplyDeleteBTW, could Marvel and DC each license their own Frankenstein's Monster for Heroclix? How many comic book Frankensteins are out there? You could have a whole team, I bet.
Link fixed.
ReplyDeleteI dunno; don't read Astro City.
Kurt ... have any opinions as to what the dials of your characters should look like?
We need more Legionnaires. You can never have enough Legion figures in any line. We'll need a complete set of pre-Crisis, post-Zero Hour, and current lineup (so far, we've had a mix of characters from all three versions).
ReplyDeleteI could figure out the dials, if need be. I made 'em up, I can make up numbers!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the plug, sir.

If you'd like a preview, I posted the ones we did at Ye Olde. We still have a Jack In The Box in the works that involves the expandable parts of little bendy straws for his arms.
ReplyDeleteYou don't read Astro City? Wow. Here I been reading your blog and admiring your comic book wisdom; I may have to take all those good thoughts back now. I mean, geez. How can you not read Astro City??
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you should at least give the first TPB a shot. You own a comic book shop, so it shouldn't require much monetary investment. I mean, it's even technically published by DC, if that's a requirement . . .
I have read some of it. I don't follow it.
ReplyDeleteHey Kurt, how do Jack-in-the-Box's telescopic gloves work? Is it his actual hand that extents, or does the glove just assume the last position that the hand was in? Those things confuse me.

ReplyDeleteAhh, comic-book physics...
"...but what exactly is Samaritan's Empyrean Web? What can't it do?"
ReplyDeleteDigging about, I found this: Empyrean (from the Med. Lat. empyreus, an adaptation of the Ancient Greek, in or on the fire, iriip), the place in the highest heaven, which in ancient cosmologies was supposed to be occupied by the element of fire. It was thus used as a name for the firmament, and in Christian literature for the dwelling-place of God and the blessed, and as the source of light.
Therefore, it's obvious what Samaritan's Empyrian Web does.
It makes the best damn French Toast in the entire universe.
Don't think that's a superpower?
Obviously you've never head great French Toast.
I understand it can also belch the alphabet. But a lot of us can do that, so it's not really a superpower.
It's been a long day.
ReplyDeleteHis hand is not actually in the glove when it extends -- he isn't super-powered or cybernetic.
ReplyDeleteBut he does remote-control the glove with an inner waldo-glove-thang, so he can smack people inna face or grabs things or give fleeing badguys the finger.
Picking up dimes, though, not so easy.

I actually once did customs of the Red Ghost and his Super-Apes. As I recall I put the Super-Orangutan (with magnetic powers) on a Rookie Cosmic Boy dial. Fun stuff!
