Actually, they did do just that in the old warplanes. They had something called an 'interrupter gear' (or 'synchronizing gear') that stopped the gun from shooting at the exact instants that would make it hit the prop, and it worked, most of the time.
I don't have the wisdom of Solomon, but even I know better than to create (and fire) a gun that shoots straight through your propeller.
